Riks - Windsurfing Specialist!
Will's session at Rutland where he broke through the 35kts barrier...strong north easterlies produce clean wind but chop...
Poole Harbour...errr...spot the crash point where the boom gave up. Anyway he still got back to shore after a bit of a DIY operation.
Rob on one of his crazy offshore speed sailing sessions - out from Tralee Bay and back to Brandon Bay - 48km in only 5 runs!

July 2009: Rippers Speed Champio No.1
Kudos goes out to Will Trossell for being the first recipient of the monthly Rippers prize donated by Rik for achievements on the Speed Ladder!
Will has been making some good use of time off by traveling to varied venues to test the speed potential and his own bottle. A crazily windy day back on 12th May saw him push through 35kts on Rutland Water - that doesn't sound like much but if you had been there and seen the state of the water it was mega impressive! Another notable session was had in Poole Harbour where after getting close to 35kts he snapped his boom and had a bit of a mission getting back.
Before you all get too excited the new JP 2010 Speed 45 board was not the prize - he was just picking it up at the end of July! He gets a new OverBoard Waterproof Case perfect for the GT-31 GPS. If you're still using the older type Aquapac then you should consider getting one of these instead as they are more compact and higher quality.
This is actually the first time the prize has been awarded now that the ladder is up and running and being regularly posted to. If you're a Riks customer then please feel free to get involved with our Rippers section and send up to five ladder sessions per month.
Note that the monthly winner won't necessarily be the fastest sailor, but may instead be the most improved, maybe the most determined or downright crazy!
Talking of crazy I had to think about who to award this initial title to as my brother Rob has been doing some fairly manic offshore sailing in Ireland on his speed kit...sure not achieving such high speeds (that's Starboard for you) but if you check out the track prints for Rob Jones on the ladder page and consider that he's covering 50km distance or more in about 4 runs...that for many of us is a full 2-3 hour session with many turns and crashes along the way! So all in all fairly impressive - you'll just have to try harder Rob when your new JP Speed arrives shortly.
Anyway well done to everyone and get posting your GPS sessions on the Rippers!
