Neil Pryde Helium Sail (2009 & 2010 Models) Rigging & Tuning Tips |
| The Helium sail is easy to rig but because it differs so much from a conventional design in terms of the correct visual set and intended wind range a few owners have been asking for some assistance. |
| Rik has put together a short film covering both the basic rigging procedure and some tips to get you tuned-up correctly for un-real planing performance in light winds. Towards the end of the film is a section relating to the 2010 model - if you have that type, although it is similar, do be sure to view all. |
| Please note that the advice given and resulting performance assumes the following: |
The correct type and length NP Progressive Flex mast is being utilised. |
| |
Using the wrong mast can prevent the sail from being able to respond to fluctuations in both the wind and water conditions. The Helium requires little or no adjustment when rigged on the correct mast as the flex dynamics of such allows the leech to twist as and when required. |
The sail size has been selected appropriately to the intended rider weight. |
| |
Each sail in the range (6.5-7.5-8.5m) is designed for the same wind condition (approx force 3-4). Sailors weighing around 75kg (11-12stone) should select the 7.5m. Lighter riders should run the 6.5m and those heavier than average will find the 8.5m to deliver the optimum performance. |
